Depression could be a coping mechanism; I’m sure you’ve heard about fight or flight, but did you hear about ‘freeze’?
A freeze (shutdown) response occurs when your nervous system detects threat and unease, but no viable option for fight or flight.
As a result, the body depresses sensation and responsiveness as a protective mechanism.
